Portrait of Angela M. Riccelli, founder of Exit the Pattern

Angela M. Riccelli, Ed.D., MHS, CCC-SLP/L

Angela M. Riccelli, Ed.D., MHS, CCC-SLP/L, is an educator, speech-language pathologist, speaker, and the founder of Exit the Pattern, a movement dedicated to helping people recognize the family patterns they were taught to call normal and choose a different path forward.

With more than two decades of experience as a clinician, university professor, and mentor, Angela has spent her career helping people find language. Today, she brings that same passion beyond the classroom, translating complex family dynamics, trauma responses, and generational patterns into words people can finally recognize in their own lives.

But Exit the Pattern was not born in a classroom.

It was born in lived experience.

Angela grew up in a family shaped by alcoholism, emotional instability, and divorce. Like many eldest daughters, she learned early how to become the responsible one, the fixer, the child who worried far more than she wondered.

As an adult, those patterns followed her. For years, she devoted herself to helping another family member through severe alcohol and substance use, stepping into caregiving roles while desperately trying to hold a family together that was never hers to save.

Eventually, she made one of the hardest decisions of her life: to stop managing everyone else's healing and begin her own.

That decision became Exit the Pattern.

Angela believes healing does not begin by pretending the past wasn't painful. It begins by naming the patterns that shaped us, understanding how they live in our nervous systems, and realizing we have permission to choose differently.

Through honest conversations, practical tools, and unapologetic truth-telling, Exit the Pattern gives people something many never received growing up:

The language to recognize the pattern and the courage to walk through the exit.
